The Jackie Robinson Foundation was started in 1973, and provides college scholarships to minority students, allowing for the social and cultural growth of students from all over the United States. There are eight main benefits that the scholars receive: a supplemental financial aid package, mentoring, a greater chance at competitive internships, leadership development, an annual mentoring and leadership conference, public service, Rachel Robinson International Federation (RRIF), and Extra Innings.

Each student receives a $24,000 scholarship for a four-year college, which does not take away from the financial aid given by the school itself, and each is also sponsored to go to the annual Mentoring and Leadership Conference that is held in New York City.
During each summer semester, students are aided in securing internships by their mentors and other participants in the foundation. Companies which choose scholars from the Robinson Foundation are encouraged to hire them after they graduate also.

Students participate in classes and seminars during the leadership conference, and learn how to deal with conflict management, business etiquette, and public speaking.
Every Student involved in the scholarship program is required to do public service, in order to change each individual's community for the better and teach the students the joys of helping those in need. In order to be accepted into the program, the applicant is required to already have completed some public works.

Rachel Robinson International Federation, or RRIF, is an aspect of the organization that encourages JRF scholars to go abroad to further their education or better themselves and their world through service.
Extra Innings is a way for the JRF scholars to expand their knowledge through the aquisition of a graduates degree, with the aid of up to $10000 a year for school. Extra Innings was created for highly-motivated JRF scholars who wish to impact their world in a positive way through education.

The Jackie Robinson Foundation has continued to open doors for minority students and has given a multitude of students greater opportunities in their lives. As the first black Major League Baseball player, Jackie Robinson shook the racist and segregated United States into changing, creating opportunities for future black athletes. And, with the inspiring students who have a wide range of opportunities at their fingertips, the foundation created in his name has continued to change the world in positive ways.
The foundation is run off of donations and has helped over 1000 students further their education. All donations are welcome, and they help the continuation of the good that Jackie Robinson began when he first broke the color barrier in the MLB.
